How to Address Your Wedding Invitation Envelopes

One of the biggest things that couples have a hard time with during the whole Wedding Invitation Collection design process is the addressing part. How do we write a doctor's name? When a couple is just dating - do we write both of their names or "and guest"? How do I address a couple and their kids who I am also inviting?

Don't worry - I got you covered in all the areas. :)

Let's start with one I have dealt with recently. The couple that has been dating for 4 years and are good friends with you have made the invitation list! Woohoo! Now, how do we address their invitation to the wedding? Well, the original and correct way to do it would be

Mr. John Smith and Guest

123 Love Ave

Boston, MA 10234

Now, some may think - "Well hey they have been dating for 4 years, so why aren't or cannot put his girlfriend's name? She is our friend too!" I am glad you asked. This is the way it has been done for years - don't ask me why I have no idea I could not tell you. But, this is not the only correct way to do it anymore - there are two ways now! The other way can be

Mr. John Smith and Ms. Kelly Howard

123 Love Ave

Boston, MA 10234

In this day and age, it is all about the couple getting married preferences. Either way is correct - it is what you decide that is the correct way for you - in this instance of addressing anyways. We still have some ways to go when it comes to other addressing!

For a Family that has kids also coming you usually can just put

The Rolston Family

223 Townsend Road

Townsend MA, 10466

OR if the family has older children still living at home with their parents and only want to send one invitation to that address but invite everyone in the household you can put this

Mr. and Ms. Rolston & Ms. Kylie Rolston

223 Townsend Road

Townsend MA, 10466

You can list all the children that live in that household. There is no limit to the amount of names you can put on the invite envelope :)

Now when it comes to Doctors, Judges, anyone who is in the service or has served, or Lawyers they have a certain lingo they can go by. Let's go in order of how I listed them.

For a Doctor(s) you always list who the actual doctor is first and then their spouse/partner.

Doctor Annie Beard and Mr. Kevin Hope

434 Rolling Street

Cambridge, MA 12342

OR, if they are both doctors you can put this

Doctor Annie and Kevin Hope (whatever name you would like to put first is up to you)

434 Rolling Street

Cambridge, MA 12342

For Judges, you can address them in two different ways. Either

The Honorable Noah Walker and Mrs. Gina Walker

55 Court Avenue

Barnegat, NJ 09890

OR

Judge Noah Walker and Mrs. Gina Walker

55 Court Avenue

Barnegat, NJ 09890

For someone in the service or was in the service goes by their title/rank

Lieutenant Jacob Longs, US Navy, and Mrs. Kylie Tollon

321 West Bay

Boston, MA 11123

OR

If they are both in the service you can just out

Lieutenants Jack and Wendy Longs

321 West Bay

Boston, MA 11123

Keep in mind if they are currently active in the service then make sure you get the correct base address, so your invitation gets delivered!

Lastly, for the Lawyers!

If only one is a lawyer then they go first on the addressing part

Michelle Bank, Esq. and Mr. Paul Water

22 Water Ways

Boston, MA 11112

OR if they are both Lawyers then you address them as

Michelle Bank, Esq. and Paul Water, Esq.

22 Water Ways

Boston, MA 11112

Phew! I know this is a lot to remember but, this blog is always here for reference! This is to help you not panic when it comes to addressing your ton of invitation envelopes. We do not want added stress. If you have anymore questions when it comes to addressing envelopes, well you know where to find me :)

Till next time!

<3 Kylie
